STONE CLADDING (sometimes called VENEERING)
We offer expertise in stone cladding both interior and exterior. Stone is strong and durable and, unlike other products, will last the lifetime of your building. While providing another layer of insulation and sound proofing, it is also fire resistant.
ADDS VALUE
Although having the same prestigious appearance, stone cladding is cheaper than building solid sandstone walls.
We love working with any natural stone. The choice of course is always yours but we can help you decide on your product.
The timeless elegance of stonework will always add value to your home and while it requires minimal maintenance, we do recommend sealing external stone especially softer varieties like Travertine.
Our Restoration Process
Sandstone is beautiful and expensive - don't let the asset you have be hidden by filth and degraded by moisture, Please don't mistake that moss look for what is more likely to be black algae, diesel soot, top soil stains or worse.
Removing Old Mortar Joins
This process can be tedious; at times the mortar is so old you can still see sea shells in it. Cement would be ‘mason made’ many moons ago crushing sea shells into dust and added to sand and water to hold together some of the heritage buildings still standing today.
Plugging chisels and a mallet in capable hands or alternatively pneumatic chisels clean out the joins being careful of the corners.
Re-pointing
A variety of pointing - sponged finish, ribbon finish (shiny) and if stone is not a great finished look tuck, or raised tuck pointing is what set work apart, an old craft rarely taught properly these days. Off-white cement and yellow or off-white loam can achieve a softer earth tone finish and sits well in neutral colour.
Sealing
There are many sealers on the market but the best is Stain Proof (old name was Dry Treat). And they give a 15 year warranty if applied by an accredited tradesman. Stain Proof still allows the stone to breathe but the stone must be properly cleaned before it is applied.
